About Statmate

Statmate is a free analytics tool for online chess players. It takes your public game history from Chess.com or Lichess and turns it into a detailed report about how you play: your strengths, your patterns, your openings, your opponents, and where you're leaving rating on the table.

It started from a simple frustration. If you play a few thousand games online, an enormous amount of information about your chess is sitting in your game history — but the platforms themselves only show you a fraction of it, and the tools that go deeper are usually paywalled, clunky, or tied to a single site. Statmate exists to close that gap.

Who it's for

Anyone who plays online chess and wants to understand their own game better:

• Improving players who want to know which openings actually win for them and where their rating leaks are.
• Competitive players tracking rivals, form, and performance against specific rating bands.
• Anyone curious about the shape of their own chess — how many hours, which countries they've faced, their best comebacks, their year in review.

What makes it different

• Both platforms. Chess.com and Lichess are supported equally, from the same tool.
• Real engine analysis. Game review runs on Stockfish 18, not a watered-down estimate — even free accounts get a genuine engine.
• No account, no upload. It reads only public data from the official APIs. There's nothing to sign up for and nothing private to hand over.
• Depth without the paywall. The kind of breakdowns normally locked behind a subscription, offered for free.

Why it's free

The goal is reach, not gatekeeping. Serious analysis has been expensive or awkward to get for too long, and most players never bother because of it. Making the core analysis free — for both platforms, from just a username — is the whole point. A premium tier exists for players who want full-strength server-side engine analysis on top, but the analytics that make Statmate useful are available to everyone.

Statmate is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Chess.com or Lichess. It uses their public APIs in line with their terms to read the game data you've already made public.
