Yes. The core analytics — your stats, opening breakdowns, rival tracking, geography, rating history, and a Stockfish 18 Lite engine for game analysis — are free to use. There's an optional premium tier for players who want full-strength, server-side engine analysis on their games, but you get a complete, useful report without paying anything.
No. You don't sign up, and you never enter a password. You type in your Chess.com or Lichess username and Statmate builds your report from your public game history. That's the entire process.
Statmate only reads public data through the official Chess.com and Lichess APIs — the same information anyone can see on your profile. It cannot access your password, your account settings, your messages, or anything private, because it never logs in as you. If a game is public on your profile, it can be analysed; if it isn't public, Statmate can't see it either.
Both Chess.com and Lichess, equally. You pick your platform, enter the username you use there, and the report is built from that platform's data. If you play on both, you can run a scan on each.
Free accounts get the full statistical report plus a Stockfish 18 Lite engine that runs locally in your browser for game analysis. Premium runs Stockfish 18 at full strength on our servers, which gives deeper, faster, more accurate engine evaluations — higher-depth analysis, more reliable accuracy scores, and cleaner best-move lines. The statistics themselves are the same either way; premium is about engine horsepower.
It's powered by Stockfish 18, one of the strongest chess engines in existence, so the underlying evaluations are as strong as top engine analysis gets. The main difference between free and premium is depth: the local Lite engine is genuinely capable but limited by your device and browser, while server-side premium analysis runs deeper for more precise accuracy scores and blunder detection.
Statmate pulls your available public archive, so the statistical breakdowns are based on your real history rather than a small sample. Larger archives take a little longer to process, but the goal is to reflect how you actually play across thousands of games, not just your most recent handful.

No. Statmate is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by either platform. It uses their public APIs, in line with their terms, to read data you've already made public.
The most common causes are a typo, picking the wrong platform (a Chess.com username won't be found on Lichess and vice versa), or a profile whose games aren't public. Double-check the spelling and the selected platform first. If it still doesn't work, get in touch and we'll help.
