Statmate turns the games you've already played on Chess.com or Lichess into a detailed picture of how you actually play. You don't upload anything, install anything, or create an account. You type in your username, and a few seconds later you're looking at a complete report built from your real game history. Here's the pipeline behind that.
When you enter a username, Statmate requests that player's public game archive directly from the official Chess.com or Lichess API — the same public data anyone can access. There's no login, no password, and no access to anything private. If your games are visible on your profile, Statmate can analyse them; if they aren't public, it can't see them either.
Each game is parsed into a structured record — the result, the time control, your colour, your rating and your opponent's at the time, the opening played, and when it happened. Thousands of games are stitched back together into a single timeline that the rest of the report is built on.
From that reconstructed history, Statmate calculates the things a spreadsheet never would: your win rate against every rating bracket, your opening repertoire with a win rate for each line, how you perform by time of day and day of week, your rating progression month by month, your head-to-head record against players you've faced repeatedly, and the geography of every opponent you've played. Each of these becomes its own section of the report.
For game-level analysis, Statmate uses Stockfish 18 — one of the strongest chess engines in the world. Premium analysis runs the engine server-side at full strength, giving you genuine evaluations of your real games: accuracy scores, blunder detection, and the best moves you missed. Free accounts still get a capable Stockfish 18 Lite engine that runs locally in your own browser, so everyone gets real engine analysis rather than the shallow client-side estimate most free tools stop at.
Serious chess analysis has traditionally lived behind paywalls or required exporting your games and wrestling with desktop software. Statmate's goal is to give that same depth — proper engine analysis, real statistical breakdowns, both platforms supported — for free, from nothing more than a username.
